Clay Alexander

Director of First Year Recruitment

Clay Alexander has served the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as the Director of First Year Recruitment in the Undergraduate Admissions Office since 2015. In this role, he leads a recruitment team of admissions counselors who are based on-campus, regionally across the state of Tennessee, and throughout the United States.

Clay has worked in higher education, and primarily in enrollment management, since 1998. Before joining us on Rocky Top, Clay served at both public and private institutions with stops at Francis Marion University in South Carolina as well as three institutions in North Carolina: Catawba College, Greensboro College, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Clay, a first-generation college student, began his studies at Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston Salem, NC, and then transferred to complete his undergraduate degree in Recreational Management and Administration at Pembroke State University (now known as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke). The foundation for his career was formed while serving as an Ambassador and Tour Guide at PSU. That experience motivated him to leave behind a career in recreation and become an admissions counselor.

Clay’s wife, Ashley, and their two sons, Brayden and Blake, live in west Knoxville, where they are active members of the Farragut community.

“I love representing the University of Tennessee to future Vols. I’m eager to assist any prospective student with their application for admission. Go Big Orange!”
