Janet Schmitt

Assistant Vice Provost for Student Services & Experience

Janet Schmitt, who joined the University of Tennessee in 2019, serves as Enrollment Management’s Assistant Vice Provost for Student Services & Experience. In this role, she works within the division and with campus and community partners to enhance the Volunteer Experience for students and families through our One Stop, Visitors Center, and Visits & Events teams.

Janet has more than 30 years of higher education experience gained during her work in housing and residence life, financial aid and scholarships and enrollment management at Ball State University, Memphis State University, and Missouri State University. Prior to joining UT, she served as Director of Enrollment Management & Marketing at Sinclair Community College, a large urban institution with an annualized headcount of over 29,000 students. She received a BS in Business Administration and MBA, both from Murray State University.

As a first-generation college graduate from a tiny hometown in southern Illinois, Janet has a deep passion for ensuring all individuals have access to lifelong learning and support for achieving their dreams and goals. She enjoys rooting for both the Racers and the Volunteers, is a proud mom to two recent college grads and enjoys living in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains region.
